Another day, another arthroscope

This is a rehash of a post from my first medial meniscectomy, as I just had my second (on the other knee - I guess that's a good thing?) today.

[UPDATED 9/15: New photo]

In the photo above, taken during the arthroscopy, the white area at the top is the end of the femur, below that is the slightly furry-looking cartilage (the furriness is because it's torn), and below that is the end of the tibia. So the good news is that the MRI was correct - I really did have a torn meniscus - and that nothing else appeared to be out of order (in particular the articular cartilage, which is attached to the bone ends, was undamaged). The orthopedist commented that yes, it was a small tear, but how big a pebble do you need in your shoe?

Once again it's time for rehab. By wisely getting injured in the Spring, this time around I've been able to do a lot of outdoor cycling (including a great week of riding a rented bike on the trails of Seattle while ostensibly attending a networking conference.) I've still been making some use of the indoor bicycle trainer, which I learned last time around can be a lot more fun if you listen to suitably upbeat music. (The woman at the bike store who sold me the bicycle trainer swore by the merits of techno, and I can honestly say that she was onto something.) The Chemical Brothers continue to be a mainstay of my training regime - were there a Grammy for best indoor training soundtrack, they should get it. (They can settle for the two Grammies that they did win, I suppose).

The Chemical Brothers website is particularly good, including plenty of full-length videos.

And here is the track that won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording:
Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

And apropos of nothing in this blog, may I draw your attention to this very nice piece of work by my artist buddy Charley.
